Chest

Introduction

Chest

The pectoralis major is made up of two heads; the clavicular head (upper chest) and the sternal head (the lower chest). The chest’s primary functions are transverse shoulder flexion and adduction, as in fly movements.

The Best Exercises For Stimulating The chest

For pressing movements, the more you flare your elbows out to the sides, the better. This forces internal rotation of your shoulders and ensures more transverse shoulder flexion and less shoulder flexion (which is the movement that occurs during front raises and mainly targets your front delts).

Therefore the guillotine press is arguably the best chest exercise. Though with this be careful not to injure your shoulders or drop the bar on your neck (thus dumbbells make a reasonable alternative).
